Gon was voiced by Takauchi Junko just before she was hired to do Naruto. Naruto and Gon have certain distinct similarities, so it's easy to see why. For a start, both are upbeat but incredibly stubborn.

Gon grew up on an island with his aunt, who told him that his parents were dead. On the tiny island he had no friends, but he loved animals and nature. One day he met a man who knew his father was alive, and told him that his father was a Hunter. Gon decides to become a Hunter as well, and find out what kind of job is worth abandoning your family for.

During the Hunter Exam, in which participants must overcome a series of life and death scenarios to qualify, he meets Leorio, Kurapica and Killua.

Kurapica (above, left) is a pacifist seeking revenge on an infamous band of criminals who murdered his family. Leorio (above, right) is seeking money for reasons he does not immediately disclose.

Killua was raised since birth as an assassin.

Like so...

But when given the chance, has a startlingly normal side.

Which is, ironically, very squemish.

There is also a large and colorful cast of adversaries, including the psychotic and perverted Hisoka:

Expect lots of great action...

...smooth character development, strong friendships, intense rivalries, plot, story, music, atmosphere, and equally well-executed drama and comedy.

Since it falls into the genres of shounen and fantasy, it's geared more for fun than realism and philosophy. But it has some of the most enjoyable and unforgettable characters and scenes ever, and anyone would be hard-put to argue that Gon and killua aren't the cutest pair of all time. :3

It's also often more satisfying to yaoi fans than actual yaoi, being just about the gayest a series can get without actual sex.
